Shell House Residential Building by Far East Design Lab. To be, not to seem, is much better than the opposite!

Shell House from Far East Design Lab in Japan

Shell house - a house designed by a Japanese architectural studio Far east design lab in a densely built-up area of Hiratsuka City (Japan). Behind the facade of this modest but rather elegant "hut" lies the realized potential of a spacious, modern and comfortable space for living, in which the authors managed to implement non-traditional loft solutions for such cottages, using interesting constructive-style interactions.

At first glance, the angular trapezoidal shapes of the house frame create a very dynamically developing interior space. And the choice of finishing materials is designed, to an even greater extent, to emphasize the freedom and expression of the environment. Spacious areas of glazing, as well as the use of window openings built into internal partitions, "push" the boundaries of perception of the volume of premises.

The authors note that they especially like the corrugated ceiling solution, which in some places is continued on the walls. This technique gives the room an expressive texture and qualitatively changes the direction of its perception in the direction of the loft space.

Inclined elements of internal architecture professionally hide integrated storage systems, highlighting their creative color and design qualities.

The authors expressly emphasized the expressive dynamics of development by the “strokes” of the black inclined profiles, which perform equally well the technical functions and the task of visual zoning of a small space, which was necessary to leave “transparent”.

Ultramodern furniture and appliances were perfectly integrated in this simple but intelligent, thought-out “youth” interior.

Despite its small size, this more than modest-looking house is able to make a decisive statement: to be, not to seem - is much better than vice versa!
