When Neft Dashlary flourished, it consisted of 2,000 drilling platforms, a network of bridges and viaducts within a radius of 30 km. The length of the roads above the water was 300 km. The basis for the city was seven flooded ships, which turned into an artificial island. Nine-story residential buildings, a cinema, a library, a laundry, a bakery, and even a lemonade factory were built there for 5,000 workers. Tons of land were brought in for the orchard and soccer field.
During the heyday of Neft Dashlara, the length of roads in the city reached 300 km.

Unfortunately, the city is now in decline. Of the 5,000 workers, only 2,500 remain. Of the total number of 300-kilometer flyovers, only 45 kilometers are operational. Due to the rise in the level of the Caspian Sea, many roads were flooded, and workers simply do not get to some drilling platforms. Residential buildings are also flooded to the level of the second floor.

According to experts, oil reserves in that region will be enough for another 20 years. Consequently, as natural resources are exhausted, the city on Neft Dashlari platforms will disappear from the face of the earth.
There are already many cities in the world that have been abandoned due to technological disasters, natural factors, or due to the deterioration of the region’s economy. They are called ghost towns.
